Mechanical Fibonacci Trading: Keep the Rule Versions Separate
Compare the 2024 retracement lesson with the 2025 Fib Geometry lesson. Learn what must stay fixed when testing a mechanical trading plan.

Mechanical trading requires decisions that can be repeated and reviewed. One Fibonacci tool can provide consistent measurements, but the measurement alone does not prove an edge.
Stoic Trader’s August 2024 and November 2025 recordings teach different Fibonacci applications. The older lesson uses a 61.8% retracement. The later Fib Geometry lesson describes a second-pullback entry at 50% after additional conditions. Combining their rules after seeing a chart creates a third strategy that neither recording tested.
The 2024 retracement version
The 2024 mechanical-strategy lesson identifies an expansion leg, measures its retracement and discusses a limit entry at 61.8%. It favors the first planned objective instead of assuming every trade will reach an extended target.
To study that version, record the exact swing anchors, when the expansion is considered established, the entry price, invalidation and first objective. If the expansion makes a new extreme before entry, the video discusses updating the measurement while waiting for the retracement.
Write down when updates are permitted. Once an order fills, moving the anchors to justify a wider stop would change the risk you accepted. The written rules need to distinguish an unfilled setup from an open position.
The 2025 Fib Geometry version
The 2025 mechanical trading masterclass begins with structural context, including an external or internal sweep. In the detailed rule section, the first pullback must reach at least the 50% retracement. The lesson then waits for the measured 100% extension before looking for the second pullback.
The second pullback supplies a new 50% measurement for the limit entry. The short example places invalidation beyond the recent swing high and discusses a 261.8% projected objective. These are historical rules for that specific application, not requirements for every Range Model trade.
Watch the chart demonstration to reproduce the anchor placement. Captions can state the percentages but cannot replace the visual relationship between the points being measured. If you cannot place the same anchors twice on a frozen chart, resolve that ambiguity before testing results.
Define what cancels an unfilled order
One mechanical plan is incomplete if it describes entry and profit but leaves cancellation to impulse. Decide what happens when structure changes before the order fills, the trading session ends, or the planned objective is reached without a pullback.
Also decide how you will handle gaps, partial fills and transaction costs in your records. One touched limit price is not always evidence that an actual order would have filled at that price. Record the assumptions used in replay or simulation.
Keep the method inside its context
The Range Model supplies the larger environment. Fibonacci measurements are an optional execution tool. One retracement percentage does not turn a poor location into a valid setup or remove the need for a held retest when your chosen setup requires one.
For each study batch, keep one rule version fixed. Record the setup date, anchors, entry, stop, objective, cancellation rule and outcome after costs. Include every qualifying example in the selected period, not only clear winners.
What the results can tell you
Separate three questions: could you identify the same setup consistently, could it be executed under realistic conditions, and did the resulting sample have positive expectancy after costs?
If the first question is unresolved, more precise Fibonacci levels will not fix it. If the sample loses, do not merge parts of the two recordings until the chart looks profitable. Write the proposed change as a new version and evaluate it on different data.
